Hannah got her flu shot on Monday. She was really excited and prepared for it. Of course, I had been working it up for weeks before telling her about how she would see her pediatician and get a flu shot. She even had the leg picked out where the shot would go.
Of course, it didn't go as well as we had talked. She did not want me to pull down her pants and would spread her legs wide apart, making it impossible to pull down her pants (which remind me of a time in my childhood when I told my parents that I needed to pee to avoid them draining a cyst in my mouth. This is a true story.)
When daddy asked her how her flu shot went. Hannah said "It tickled!" It didn't hurt but she cried b/c the nurse scared her with the needle. I've never heard anyone described getting the flu shot as being tickled but there you go. Hope everyone gets their flu shots!!!

Sign Language
HANNAH: (sitting up in bed) You know Mom, when people's ears are broken they talk like this (moving her fingers).
MOMMY: What do you mean when people's ears are broken?
HANNAH: When someone's ears doesn't work b/c it is broken they talk like this (again moving her fingers).
Finally I realize that she was signing.
MOMMY: Oh, I see. Yes that is correct. When someone's ears are broken the can't hear, that means they are deaf, so they have to use sign language.
She then proceeds to tell me how someone with brokn ears would say sorry (moving her fisted hand in a circle on her chest). She also showed me thank you and more (which we used when she was a baby).
I was totally amazed b/c here was a 3.5 yo telling me something that I would not expect a child at this age to understand or even to articulate as well as she did. Even more so b/c this month I am on peds and see a lot of kids at all different levels. Of course, I am bias and have to say Hannah is really smart!

"Boys don't have brains!"
Hannah has heard me talk a lot about the brain. She was also a good little patient for me to practice the 55 items I am supposed to do in my oral exam. Of course, it's only fair that she gets to be the dr and I the patient. She did great! Already asking me my chief complaint and shaking hands to greet the patient. Anyway, last night she decided that "boys don't have brains!" I have never said this to her so I have no idea where she is getting it but she came to that conclusion last night. I am sure a lot of women will agree with this 3-yo!

No worries Mom
Hannah likes to tell me No worries mom if she does something like spill milk or dropped her bowl of cherrios. "No worries mom I'll clean it up."
The other day we were in the pediatrician's office. She wanted to see the fish in the tank but I was waiting in line to check in.
VALERIE: I cant come with you right this moment.
HANNAH: (walking toward the fish tank) No worries mom I can see the fish.
Another mother with her son overheard this and cracked up herself.
After the doctor's visit, I asked Hannah why she didn't talk to her pediatrician or sing or twirl in her dress like she had practiced the night before.
HANNAH: But I talk to you.
Yes, she does talk to me...A LOT!!! and I love our conversations!

(Fairy) Godmother
I asked Hannah if she knew that Lesley was her godmother...she kind of looked at with this thoughtful look then said...
HANNAH: Why? She's my godmother b/c I am cinderella?
Lately we are in the Princess phase as well. She pretends to be Cinderella and likes to wear her dress up gown. Daddy is her prince.

The best dress to twirl
So the girls at preschools are on a dress wearing phase. They ALL want to wear dresses...why? Well I learned that the see who has the best dress to twirl in and who is the best twirler...I asked Hannah about this. And of course I had to ask who she thought was the best twirler...
She looked at me with a sly smirk and pointed her little finger at herself in the most innocent and bashful way.
This is at 3 year olds! What next at 5? 10? 16?

Indiana Jones
Hannah has been on an Indian Jones kick lately with the new movie opening this weekend. She has seen all 3 episodes at least once if not more, thanks to the marathon on SciFi. And yes I did let my 3 yo child watch Indiana Jones. She liked them!
Walking to bus top Saturday...Hannah stops to pick up a rock like she always does when we are outside!
VALERIE: Hannah what is it with you and rocks? Are you going to be a rock collector?
HANNAH: No. I don't know what wrong with me and my rocks.
TIM: Are you going to be a Geologist?
HANNAH: No, the other man is.
VALERIE: What man?
HANNAH: The man in the movie (refering to Indiana Jones whom I told her was an Archeologist).
See she remembered and learned something!
VALERIE: Oh okay, how did you remember that? Indiana Jones was an Archeologist. A Geologist is someone who studies rocks. Archeologusts dig dinosaur bones and treasures.

Stinky Mommy..house shoes...etc
In bed this morning, Hannah comes to snuggle with me and then moves far away.
HANNAH: Mommy, you need a shower. You didn't shower since last week.
VALERIE: What Hannah? Do I stink or something?
HANNAH: Yeah, go shower.
Hannah likes to wear her ballet slippers that Sallie got her for the wedding. They are a bit big on her. I previously told her these can be hr hosue shoes and she can wear them inside the house. This morning she saw them in the middle of the floor - their usual resting place -
HANNAH: Mommy, can I wear these? You said they were house shoes and I am in the house. Do you see? Hold the shos out for me to see) THESE ARE HOUSE SHOES!
VALERIE: Yes, Hannah I see them and yes I told you they are house shoes so you can wear them.

Peanut...
This morning while using the toilet Hannah is talking about how big she is b/c she is toilet trained and various things while doing her business. Then came...
HANNAH: Daddy has a nut.
VALERIE: He has what?
HANNAH: a peanut (though it really sounded like something else which is what I think she meant)
VALERIE: (flabergasted) He does? who told you that?
HANNAH: Katie (our cat)
VALERIE: Katie?
HANNAH: Yeah, Kaie Mae
VALERIE: Are you sure? Did one of your friends from school say that?
HANNAH: Noooo.
VALERIE: Well, what do girls have?
HANNAH: a butt!
So there it is, at 35 months...

Catching up
I am in the bathroom getting ready one morning. Hannah comes to the door.
VALERIE: Hannah do you need to pee?
HANNAH: No mom, I need to go poo-poo so can you get out of my way?
Tim is driving super fast down the parking garage at the airport making me very dizziness.
VALERIE: Gosh don't be so rough!
HANNAH: Daddy, don't get rough on mommy.
The morning after the wedding reception, Hannah complains of knee pain. She limps around the hotel room.
HANNAH: I can't walk very good today. My knee doesn't work.
VALERIE: Well, Hannah it was all that dancing you did last night.
HANNAH: Mom, tell me the story [about me dancing].
I am cutting Tim's hair in the bathroom. Hannah comes in.
HANNAH: Hi guys! Do you need me?
Dinner time...
HANNAH: Okay guys (capping her hands together) Let's eat! Do you want some rice? Okay I will get it for you.

MOMMY: I did? Well we needed to go to school.
HANNAH: Don't you know you're not supposed to wake people up?
MOMMY: I'm not? But we were going to be late.

Noodle
Hannah loves Mommy's homemade chicken noodle soup. We have it all the time when the weather is cold outside! But don't dare call us a noodle!
HANNAH/MOMMY: we love noodles. Oodles and oodles of noodle!
DADDY: Hannah you are a noodle.
HANNAH: I'm not a noodle. You're a noodle daddy.

Starbucks
it's wake up time!
Since I am auditing a course, we've had to get up early for school. It hasn't been easy for any of us...trsut me. It's been trying most days and it was only the first week and a short one at that! Here's our conversation one morning:
MOMMY: Hannah, wake up. It's wake up time (this is what Hannah tells me in the morning when she is ready to get up and wants me to do the same).
HANNAH: I can't wake up. I just can't. My legs won't let me.

Jinger Bells
All through the holidays Hannah was singing "Jinger (yes, people jinger instead of jingle) bells, jinger bells, jinger all the way..." It was too cute. Many of our families got to hear Hannah's rendition over Christmas break. I will try to get her to sing it again while recording on my camera.
